After some appearances in movies and British teen drama series Alex Kingston really took off in 1997. In the drama series Emergency Room she played the British surgeon Elizabeth Corday for seven seasons and even returned in the last season for two episodes.

Alex Kingston has since made numerous guest appearances in well-known television series such as Without a Trace, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Law & Order: Special Victims.

Scifi and fantasy fans also know Alex Kingston as River Song in Doctor Who. Actually, it was only supposed to be a one-time guest appearance, but the character became so popular that she has appeared in seventeen episodes so far.

In 2018 she played in the TV series A Discovery of Witches and in 2019 Alex Kingston starred in the mini-series The Widow.
